Tim Shields
Mr. Shields has been Managing Director at Milwaukee Repertory Theater since 1998. The Rep produces 16 shows annually in four theaters for 22,000 subscribers and has an annual budget exceeding $9 million.
He currently serves as Vice-President of the League of Resident Theaters [LORT]; Vice President of the Board at Theatre Communications Group [TCG]; and as President and co-founder of Theatre Wisconsin, the statewide association of professional non-profit theaters. He has served as a panel chair, a panelist, and as a site reporter for the National Endowment for the Arts, and as a panelist for the Missouri Arts Council. Mr. Shields has served on the National Council for the Humanities at Alverno College (Milwaukee), and is a member of the Latino Arts Board of the United Community Center in Milwaukee.
Prior to arriving at the Rep, he completed six seasons as Managing Director of Geva Theatre in Rochester, NY, where he led that institution to all-time highs in ticket sales, donations, and annual operating budget surpluses. During his tenure there, Geva eliminated their large accumulated operating debt, established an endowment fund, and constructed a second theater.
Other professional experience includes a decade at McCarter Theatre, in Princeton, NJ, where Mr. Shields served at various times as General Manager, Administrative Director, and Business Manager. He has also held the positions of Administrative Director at The Children’s Theatre Company & School, in Minneapolis, and as Business Manager at the Denver Center Theatre Company.
Mr. Shields holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama Production) degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
